What time is check in/check out?
Check in is available any time after 5pm. Check out time is 10am.
Where do I pick up my keys?
You can pick up your keys at the Watermen’s Retreat welcome desk located at REAL Watersports in Waves, NC.
What time does your office open and close for checking in and checking out?
The Watermen’s Retreat welcome desk is staffed 9am to 6pm. If you arrive after hours, instructions are provided within an email you received at the time of booking. You will also receive a text with late check in procedures if you have not arrived by 6pm.
What is included in the rate?
Fully furnished rooms with made beds and bath towels, fully equipped kitchens, in room washer/dryer, secure gear storage, parking, cable tv, high-speed Wi-Fi internet, private kite launch access at REAL Watersports.
What payment methods do you accept?
Charges for all Watermen's Retreat properties will be processed by Flying R Inc. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover.
When do you charge for the reservation?
Reservations will be charged in full at the time of booking.
Do you charge tax on the reservations?
12.75% tax is applied to all reservations.
Do you include Travel Insurance on your bookings?
Travel Insurance may be obtained at the time of booking but will be not be included in a reservation unless requested. Exclusions and limitations may apply.

Watermen’s Retreat/Flying R, through InsureStays via RentalGuardian is pleased to offer Travel Protection. Travel Protection is an important way to protect your vacation investment against unforeseen circumstance that may occur before or during your scheduled trip.
As per the North Carolina Vacation Rental Act, if the insurance is waived, neither the owner nor Watermen’s Retreat/Flying R is liable for refunds.

What is your cancellation policy?
If you cancel on or before 60 days prior to arrival, we will refund 100% of your money minus the cancellation fee.
If you cancel on or before 30 days prior to arrival, we will refund 50% of your money minus the cancellation fee.
If you cancel 29 or fewer days prior to arrival, there will be no refund.
Cancellation fee of $150 will be applied to refunded reservations.
Do you allow pets?
Dogs (max 2) are permitted in our cottages and cabanas with a non- refundable pet fee of $175 and a signed waiver. Pets are not permitted in any of our suites or penthouses.
Where should I buy groceries?
On your way here, purchase your groceries and alcohol in Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head. We recommend Harris Teeter and Fresh Market for groceries, beer and wine, and the Dare County ABC Stores for liquor. All of these stores are located about 30 minutes north of Watermen’s Retreat on your way to our resort.
Watermen’s Retreat offers custom food/beverage provisioning packages. This allows you to show up to a fully stocked fridge and focus your time on fun.
Are there BBQ grills on the property?
If you are an avid griller we recommend our cabanas and cottages which include outdoor BBQ grills. By Dare County law, BBQ grills are not allowed on the decks or surrounding grounds of our suites.
What type of toiletries do you provide?
Travel size shampoo, conditioner, lotion and bath soap are provided at the beginning of your stay. These are not refreshed unless you request our housekeeping service.
Do you provide laundry soap with the washing machine?
No, due to personal preferences and allergies we do not provide laundry soap.
Does the kitchen include a toaster, coffee pot and blender?
All of our kitchens are fully equipped to cook and enjoy any meal. They include toasters, drip style coffee makers, blenders, pots, pans, utensils and knives. Liquid dish detergent, tablets for the dishwasher, paper towels and garbage bags are provided at the beginning of your stay but are not refreshed unless you request our housekeeping service.
What condiments do you provide in the kitchen?
We provide salt, pepper and coffee filters. You will need to bring your own spices and personal essentials for your cooking needs.
Is there daily housekeeping service?
Our daily housekeeping service is available for an additional fee. If desired please request this service at time of booking.
Is cell service reliable in Cape Hatteras?
Cellular service is generally reliable. T-Mobile, Sprint and sometimes AT&T can be spotty in areas.
Is the Wi-Fi reliable in Cape Hatteras?
Yes, there are high speed wireless networks in Watermen’s Retreat and Watermen’s Bar & Grill.
How do I make a reservation?
The easiest way to check rates and availability as well as book your stay is to use our convenient online booking. You can also call us 9am to 6pm daily at 252 987 6060.
What do I do if there is an evacuation ordered while I am staying at Watermen’s Retreat, before I arrive for my stay?
If Dare County authorities order a mandatory evacuation you will be required to comply within three hours of the order. If the order is issued prior to your arrival, you will not be able to access Hatteras Island.
You will be notified of an evacuation by Watermen’s Retreat staff either by phone, text or by email. If your fail to leave a Watermen’s Retreat property, it will be considered trespassing and law enforcement will be contacted.
To protect your investment, we urge our guests to consider purchasing Travel Insurance (exclusions apply). Contact our office for more specific information.
Can I cancel my reservation and get a refund if there is no wind, sun, surf, etc.
